Today Aeroporti di Roma – our Asset Company – inaugurated at Leonardo da Vinci Airport in Fiumicino the new Boarding Area A, a state-of-the-art infrastructure of about 37,000 square meters, which will be used for Schengen and domestic flights.

The event was attended by the President of the Republic, Sergio Mattarella, the President of ENAC, Pierluigi Di Palma, the Mayor of Fiumicino, Esterino Montino, the Mayor of the Metropolitan City of Rome Capital, Roberto Gualtieri, the President of the Lazio Region, Nicola Zingaretti, and the Minister of Sustainable Infrastructure and Mobility, Enrico Giovannini.
The new Pier features innovative and environmentally friendly solutions and, thanks to its 23 gates, 13 of which are equipped with boarding docks, will accommodate an additional 6 million departing passengers each year. The infrastructure is part of Aeroporti di Roma's development project and of our Group's sustainability and innovation-oriented path, whose focus is to make investments that enable the energy transition of our assets, while activating their strong technological upgrade.
The area consists of two large facilities: an innovative pier dedicated to more than 100 Schengen and domestic destinations and an exclusive commercial gallery with more than 6,000 square meters of space dedicated to retail and food & beverage of excellence, all services in line with the primacy achieved by ADR in passenger appreciation, certified by Airport Council International and obtained by the airport for 5 consecutive years. To promote Roman classicism and knowledge of the historical-artistic value of the area where Fiumicino Airport operates, the two large areas are connected by a single body along which 7 original works from the Ostia Antica Archaeological Park are displayed.
The state-of-the-art and sustainable infrastructure consists of a significant number of fingers that will immediately allow a significant reduction in the use of buses on the runway, with benefits both on the quality of service and on the reduction of CO2 emissions. All gates are also equipped with new "touchless" technology, which enables passengers to perform boarding procedures independently and at speed. A photovoltaic system with monocrystalline silicon panels has been built on the roof of the Pier, which will power the infrastructure, making it autonomous. The entire project is "Made in Italy," as it was developed by ADR Ingegneria's staff of architects and engineers. The classic forms, combined with transparency and maximum use of natural light, provide the passenger with the impression of being in the middle of the runways. In addition, Pier A is being certified according to the International "Leed" protocol - (Leadership in Energy and Enviromental Design) Gold level for the design, construction, and operation of sustainable buildings. This level of certification denotes how the infrastructure has been designed and built to have an absolutely reduced environmental impact. Special attention was paid to the choice of systems and raw materials, with systems for climatic treatment through radiant floor panels, control of temperature and humidity parameters in the room, and to the choice of materials and furniture components: all artificial lighting was, in fact, made with innovative LED technologies.
