11 March 2022

Roma, Friday, 11 March 2022. Atlantia’s Board of Directors has approved the provision of a total of €1m in funding for a series of humanitarian initiatives run by the Community of Sant’Egidio and Caritas Italiana to support the Ukrainian refugees to be hosted by Italy. The main support initiatives are to include welcome services for Ukrainian women and children, the provision of basic necessities, healthcare and psychological support, legal advice and crèches.

Atlantia’s employees will also take part in the initiatives as part of our Active Citizenship programme, named “10days4”, which enables them to use up to 10 working days a year for voluntary work. Atlantia has also made available our Villa Fassini premises located in via Giuseppe Donati in Rome, with the related timing and method of use to be agreed on with the relevant authorities. This large property includes buildings and green space that could be used to provide assistance in collaboration with Caritas and the Community of Sant’Egidio.

Further solidarity and support initiatives are being considered and in the process of being approved by the Group’s largest companies. Abertis is working on a plan to provide support for the Polish Red Cross, which is managing the emergency on the ground. The Polish operator, Stalexport, which operates a section of motorway forming one of the main corridors being used by people fleeing Ukraine, is providing support for both the population and the European government and non-governmental organisations present in the area. Aeroporti di Roma and Aéroports de la Côte d’Azur are in turn launching welcome and solidarity initiatives for the refugees expected to pass through their airports. Finally, Telepass is looking to set up a programme designed to offer people from Ukraine with digital expertise the opportunity to embark on a career at the company’s Milan headquarters and to relocate their families.
