The High-Efficiency SeaStar TLP Hull

The SeaStar monocolumn hull with three radial pontoons is one of the most refined buoyant shapes ever designed. The structure is optimized to deliver the maximum payload capacity for a given hull weight. A SeaStar hull supports up to 1.8 times its own weight. By comparison a spar hull supports only about 0.6 times its weight. That means a spar hull contains about three times the steel in a SeaStar hull, which is one of the reasons SeaStar TLPs are more economical than spars.

The SeaStar's efficiency advantage over spars increases as hull size increases. Atlantia engineers have determined that the SeaStar hull has no size limitations, other than shipyard capacity.
